Three dead following two separate crashes in Ayrshire

30-year-old Ian Clark and 22-year-old Shannan Rafferty died in a one-car crash on Friday, while a 37-year-old man was killed in an accident on Saturday

Two people have died following a one-car crash in Ayrshire.

At around 2:30 on Friday afternoon a white Toyota Corolla left the B7024 High Maybole Road in Ayr and struck a tree.

The 30-year-old man who was driving, and a 22-year-old woman who was a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

They've been named as Ian Clark and Shannan Rafferty, both from Girvan.

Three other passengers man are all being treated in hospital for serious injuries.

A 16-year-old boy was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, while another boy, also 16, was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital.

A 34-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital. All three are now said to be in a stable condition.

Sergeant Nicola Taylor, Divisional Road Policing Unit, Ayrshire, is appealing for witnesses to the crash. She said:

“I would ask that anyone who was driving either on High Maybole Road, or in the immediate vicinity, who might have seen the car prior to the crash to contact police.

“Anyone with information that may assist officers with their enquiries can contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Ayr Police Office via 101. Please quote reference number 1867/20/10/17 when calling.”

High Maybole Road was closed for approximately eight hours last night whilst officers carried out their enquiries.

A report on the deaths will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

In a second fatal accident nearby, a 37-year-old man was killed in a crash on the A77 at Maybole at around 3.40am on Saturday.

The man was driving a blue Chevrolet Lacetti south when the car collided with a northbound lorry at the junction with the B742.

Police said the man died at the scene while the 34-year-old male lorry driver was unhurt.

Officers have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or were travelling on the route to contact them
