Police are appealing for witnesses after a hit-and-run crash in Irvine that left a man in hospital with serious injuries.

The incident happened at around 10:20 on Saturday morning when a Vauxhall Corsa and a Jaguar S-Typecollided on the B7081, close to the Newmore Roundabout.

Emergency services responded; and the driver of the Corsa, a 50 year-old man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where he's been treated for serious injuries. He remains in hospital where his condition is described as stable.

However, after the crash two men were seen abandoning the Jaguar and making off north along the B7081 in a black Mercedes driven by a third man, and police are now working to trace them.

Speaking last night Detective Inspector Mick Carr said:

“Anyone with information surrounding this collision is asked to contact police. If you witnessed the crash and have not yet contacted police, please contact officers with any information you may have.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Saltcoats CID on 101. Alternatively, CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
