Detectives at Kilmarnock are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted in Kilmarnock on Saturday 7 November 2015.

Around 2.20am on Saturday morning, a 22 year old man was walking along Witchhill Place, Kilmarnock, when he was attacked and hit on the head by a man causing him to fall to the ground.

He was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock, suffering from head and facial injuries. He was released after treatment.

Detective Constable Paul McRoberts, Kilmarnock CID, is the officer leading the enquiry. he said:

"At this time we cannot confirm whether the man was the intended target of the attack or not, however, whatever the reason, this was a rather nasty assault which resulted in a serious head injury.

"It is believed that the man was struck with a pole or something similar but this has still to be confirmed. Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area and we have established that there was a small dark coloured car seen in the area around about the time of the incident.

"I would ask for the occupants of that car, or anyone who saw it in the area, to contact police."

Anyone with information is asked to telephone the CID at Kilmarnock on the non-emergency telephone number 101. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted in confidence on 0800 555 111.
