Man dies in hospital after alleged attack in Saltcoats

A pensioner attacked outside a pub in North Ayrshire has died of his injuries.

The incident happened in Green Street, Saltcoats, on Tuesday, when emergency services were called to reports of a man lying injured.

He was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital- where he passed away on Thursday afternoon.

The man’s been named locally as 66-year-old Henry Lee.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “A 66-year-old man succumbed to his injuries in hospital earlier today. Relatives are aware.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

A 16-year-old man appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court earlier, at the time charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident - he made no plea and was released on bail.

A date for his next appearance has yet to be set.
