Man In Court For Brandishing Sword In Largs

A man is expected to appear in court on Monday 2nd August after a sword attack in Largs yesterday which left a police officer in hospital with a hand injury.

Armed officers were called to Gogo Street at 3:45pm after reports of a man swinging a Claymore above his head.

The 22-year old allegedly smashed a window of a police car before launching an attack on a police man - who suffered wounds to his hands while trying to defend himself.

The man was arrested a short time later after he was swarmed by officers and restrained using CS spray.

Police are appealing for anyone with any mobile phone video footage of the incident to get in contact.

Police Scotland said: “Around 4pm on Aug 2, 2015, police responded to reports of a disturbance on Gogo St in Largs

“On attending officers were confronted by a man who was allegedly carrying a large bladed weapon.

“A police vehicle was damaged and one officer sustained a minor injury.

“CS spray was deployed and under authorisation of the local policing commander for Ayrshire Division, Chief Superintendent Gillian MacDonald.

“Armed response officers attended the incident.

“A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and the injured officer has been taken to Inverclyde Hospital to receive treatment.

“A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

“No members of the public were injured during the incident and we thank those who contacted the police.”
