Man Charged With Pensioner Murder

A 32-year old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a 72-year-old man in his North Ayrshire home.

James Nolan is accused of stabbing Malcolm Ballantyne on his head and body at his home in Glebe Place in the town on the 21st August.

He is also charged with two counts of unrelated theft.

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, Mr Nolan made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.
