A man’s been remanded in custody after appearing at Ayr Sheriff Court charged with the attempted murder of a shopkeeper in Catrine.

James McMurdy appeared in private on petition, where he entered no plea or declaration.

The 39 year old, who’s from Catrine, is accused of attempted murder, as well as assault and robbery, after a 63 year old woman was found with serious head injuries at a shop in the town on Sunday afternoon.

She was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital before being transferred to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she remains critically ill.

McMurdy has been committed for further examination, and is due to appear in court again next week.
