Major improvements for road between New Cumnock and Dalmellington
The work gets underway next month and will last 8-10 weeks.
Work will get underway next month to improve the B741 road between Dalmellington to New Cumnock.
The improvements include resurfacing, flood defences and repairs to the Knockburnie Bridge.
It will get underway next month, lasting 10 weeks and bring some closures and diversions at weekends.
Stewart Turner, Head of the Ayrshire Roads Alliance said, “I’m delighted we have managed to secure funding for the works on the B741 and can confirm that these improvement works will begin in a matter of weeks.
“The B741 is an important route and we’re working to make sure these improvements are made before winter arrives.”
Additional planned works on the B741 will also take place which will include the strengthening of Knockburnie Bridge plus a water main diversion and flood defence works at The Leggate.
Mr Turner continued, “Knockburnie Bridge needs to be strengthened and we’re acutely aware of the need to have effective flood defences in place, mindful of the storm damage in the past and the misery this caused residents in the New Cumnock area.
“Nobody likes roadworks and the inconvenience these can cause, but we’re aiming to keep this to an absolute minimum.
“For example, the deck replacement at Knockburnie Bridge later in the year will require a full road closure, but we are looking at using precast concrete slabs to speed things up.
“We’re confident the long-term benefits of these works will outweigh the temporary inconvenience caused and apologise in advance to anyone affected, with our thanks for their patience and understanding as these important improvements are carried out.”
Work will begin in September 2017 and is scheduled to take place over 8-10 weeks, including full road closures/diversions at weekends only, at the following four locations:
Resurfacing from Gateside Road, Dalmellington (825metres eastwards)
Resurfacing from Marshallmark to Knockburnie Farm
Resurfacing from C36 junction, Connel Park (1,150metres westwards)
Resurfacing from A76 to The Leggate
