Plans for the £450 million development of an abandoned theme park near Galston have been rejected by councillors.

Loudoun Castle was closed in 2010 after it became too expensive for it's owners to run.

In 2014, the Loudoun Castle Project unveiled their plans for a multi-million pound makeover of the site. They had hoped to build leisure facilities, a water park, campsites and luxury lodges.

There were, however, a number of objections to the development. SEPA were worried about the flood risks and NHS Ayrshire and Arran said they were concerned the extra people could strain their resources. There was also concern for local wildlife.

At a meeting today, East Ayrshire Council rejected the plans based on these objections. They did say, however, that if the problems were fixed they would reconsider.

Their decision means development of the land is pushed back until at least 2018.
