Lorry driver dead after crash on A77 in South Ayrshire

The road was closed for several hours after the accident on Tuesday morning

A lorry driver has died following a crash on the A77 near Ballantrae.

The 57-year-old's vehicle was the only one involved in the accident at Glenapp Castle on Tuesday morning - his family have been informed.

Emergency services were called out at around 11.50am and the road was closed until around 7.30pm while an investigation was carried out.

On Wednesday a Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that the 57-year-old man had died in the crash, while no other injuries have been reported.
