Local Syrian woman speaks of her heartache for her country

Published 10th Dec 2015

A Syrian woman living here in the South West is telling us about the country and the memories she left behind.

Rana Zaitoon, 46, lived most of her life in Syria leaving when she was 30 years old.

She is a fully qualified doctor but had to give up her career when she moved away and has since worked as a translator.

Rana came to the UK 7 years ago when she married a British man.

She is speaking out as her family and friends flee the terror of ISIS and air strikes from coalition forces.

US billionaire Donald Trump has also called for a blanket ban on Muslims entering the US - and claimed there are areas of London police are afraid to enter because of radicalisation.

But his views have caused an outcry with a petition calling for him to be banned from entering the UK reaching 100,000 signatures.

Rana tells our reporter Natasha Reid views like this have had a direct impact on how she lives her otherwise peaceful life here...
