People with a diagnosed mental disorder who lack awareness of danger from road traffic may be able to get a blue badge from today.

People with a diagnosed mental disorder who lack awareness of danger from road traffic may be able to get a blue badge from today.

'Mental disorder' means a mental illness, a personality disorder or a learning disability. For example, children with autism or Down's syndrome may be eligible for a blue badge.

This eligibility criterion is being tried out as a pilot in all local authorities in Scotland for the period of one year and so blue badges will be issued for one year only.
