Inspection finds structural problems at East Ayrshire school

Structural issues have been discovered during an inspection of Netherthird Primary School in East Ayrshire.

There are concerns about the ceilings in the classrooms.

It means pupils won't be able to return to the school after the summer holidays on the 16th of August.

Children in P1-P5 will be moved to Greenhill Primary, and those in P6 and P7 will study at Cumnock Academy.

East Ayrshire Council says the Early Education Centre at the school will remain open, as it is unaffected.

In a statement on their website they say ''these are precautionary measures to ensure there is no further disruption to education provision and we will review the arrangement in October 2017.''

They added: ''we always put the safety and wellbeing of pupils, parents and staff first and, while we look more closely at the scope of work needed to fix the classroom ceilings, Netherthird Primary School will be closed and primary pupils will be decanted.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience our decision may cause, but trust parents will understand that we will not compromise on matters relating to their children’s safety.''

Letters have been sent to parents and any further information will be posted on the Council’s website and social media
