Detectives at Kilmarnock are continuing enquiries and appealing for witnesses after a man tried to rob an elderly woman of her handbag on Tuesday 5 April 2016.

Around 8:10am on Tuesday morning, the 76 year-old woman was walking in Kirktonholm Place in Kilmarnock when she was approached by a man who tried to grab her bag off her, but he then ran off empty handed.

The suspect is described as being between 20-25 years of age, 6ft in height and of gaunt appearance. He was wearing a grey hooded top.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Dougan of Kilmarnock Police Office is continuing his enquiries. He said:

“Luckily the woman was uninjured, however she is badly shaken as a result of this assault.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who may have been in the area of Kirktonholm Place and noticed this man acting suspiciously to contact Kilmarnock Police Office through the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
