Forth Bridges Re-Open After Controlled Explosion
The Forth Bridges have re-opened after a controlled explosion was carried out at the construction site of the new crossing.
Exposed wires were discovered earlier today amid materials believed to be used in the demolition process at the site of the new Queensferry Crossing.
Police said the procedure was safely carried out by the explosive ordinance disposal unit (EOD) and the M90 and the Forth Road Bridge re-opened around 5.30pm.
The Forth Rail Bridge was also closed temporarily while the controlled explosion took place.
Police Scotland had been working with British Transport Police and Network Rail to facilitate the operation.
The operation caused long delays and tailbacks on both sides of the Firth of Forth leading to the bridge.
A Police Scotland statement said: Police Scotland can confirm that the Forth Road Bridge and surrounding roads have now reopened.
The EOD has safely carried out their controlled explosion and the public are thanked for their patience during this matter.''
