Firefighters battled to protect neighbouring homes from a blaze at a terraced property in Ayr.

Teams in breathing apparatus worked inside the roof-space using four high pressure jets to knock down the flames as they spread through the Peggieshill Road block.

The aggressive firefighting operation on Wednesday evening (20 April) successfully prevented the destruction of adjacent homes.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews were sent to the incident in response to a 999 call made at 7:25pm, with first responders on-scene four minutes later.

Firefighters immediately moved to tackle the flames in the roof of the house, while others were deployed on either side of the blaze to knock-back the fire as it took hold above neighbouring properties.

The SFRS crews assisted a man from one of the homes in the block as a precautionary measure to ensure his safety.

Around 15 firefighters were at the scene at the height of the incident. The three crews initially involved were relieved by others before the start of cutting away operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

The SFRS teams used a thermal imaging camera to confirm there was no hidden fire spread within the building’s structure and left the scene around 12:20am (Thursday 21 April).
