By-election announced for Irvine West seat
A by-election is to be held on Thursday,11 August, following the decision of Councillor Ruth Maguire to resign from North Ayrshire Council after her election to the Scottish Parliament.
A by-election is to be held on Thursday,11 August, following the decision of Councillor Ruth Maguire to resign from North Ayrshire Council after her election to the Scottish Parliament.
Councillor Maguire’s resignation creates a vacancy within Electoral Ward 1 - Irvine West.
Returning Officer Elma Murray said: “It is my intention to hold a by-election on Thursday, 11 August, 2016.
“This will avoid any disruption to our educational establishments within the electoral ward as schools will still be on summer break.”
After the notice of the by-election is published on Monday, 4 July, nomination packs will be available from the Returning Officer, North Ayrshire Council, Cunninghame House, Irvine, KA12 8EE.
This will mean that the period of nomination will run from Tuesday, 5 July, until Wednesday, 20 July. Nominations will be accepted at the Election Office on these dates (excluding weekends) between 10am and 4pm. The Count venue will be anounced in due course.
