Project SEARCH is currently recruiting for new interns to take part in an employability programme run by East Ayrshire Council, NHS Ayrshire and Arran and Ayrshire College. The programme offers young people with learning disabilities, including those on the autistic spectrum, aged 17 to 24 years a one-year work placement. Interns will spend their day at University Hospital Crosshouse where they will explore a variety of jobs and career paths. They will also receive intensive, personalised support to prepare them for and help them find work. Councillor Jim Buchanan, Cabinet Member for Economy said: “Project SEARCH, which is now in its third year, is an excellent project which helps prepare young people for the world of work. The young people will participate in a variety of work placements within the hospital. They will be supported by instructors, job coaches, business managers and mentors throughout their placement. “Through the project the young people gain valuable new skills and confidence.” An open day will be held on Wednesday 2 March from 1pm to 6pm at 19 Simpson Street, University Hospital Crosshouse. Applications for the next intake of interns must be submitted by Friday 18 March. Project SEARCH works in partnership with the Council, NHS Ayrshire & Arran, Ayrshire College, Skills Development Scotland and Merge.
