Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival has announced the line-up for its 44th festival this May.

Spread over the course of a full week across 14 venues in the region, the festival will feature immersive music, comedy, food & drink and even a pop-up Opera.

It’s running from May 20 -28 and tickets for individual events are available to buy now.

Bosses at the festival say they can’t wait to showcase local talent.

Simon Hart, Chief Executive Officer of Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival said: “"We look forward to welcoming audiences across Dumfries & Galloway to our festival events, sharing the brilliant, inspiring and world-class work of leading Scottish and UK performers in theatre, opera, spoken word, comedy and dance, as well as showcasing the skills and talents of local artists.

“Recognising the current economic climate, events range from free to a maximum of £15 to keep the festival accessible to as many audiences as possible, with most tickets being under £10. Under 26s can purchase tickets for as little as £3.50. BSL patrons can request an interpreter to any of the events.”

Folk musicians Gaither A Thegether will open the festival on May 20 with a unique immersive event combining folk and dub music at the Castle Douglas Town Hall, with support from An Dannsa Dub and BBC Introducing’s Phoebie I.H.

Returning to the festival after previous sell-out performances are Scottish Opera with Pop-Up Opera in Sanquhar and Moniaive. The widely recognised A Play, A Pie and A Pint will also return, with brand new theatrical treats at lunchtime in Dumfries, Stranraer and Moffat.

Also, amongst the event line up, audiences can enjoy a larger-than-life feline performance at Crawick Multiverse, a free dance and live music extravaganza by Oceanallover on the streets of Kirkcudbright, and the unmistakable folk sound of TALISK, supported by The Lucky Doves and Rose Byres in Stranraer.

Coming to Dumfries Theatre Royal after a successful stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a hit show titled HAIR, celebrating Queer theatre will take the stage.

Tickets are now on sale for the event, and the full line-up can be found on the festival website.
