Countdown is on for the annual taxi trip to Troon
Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund launches seaside day trip at Langlands Primary School
It is one of the most famous and loved days in the Glasgow calendar and now the countdown is well and truly on to the 2018 Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund trip to Troon.
Charity event organisers, the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund, today launched its 73rd annual children’s trip with help from pupils at Langlands Primary School in Glasgow’s south side.
The official launch took place before the big day next week on Wednesday 20 June when taxis and drivers in fancy dress will take hundreds of kids to Ayrshire for a special day at the seaside.
Each year, more than 100 drivers give up their day for free and take more than 300 schoolchildren who require additional support for learning, as well as their parents and carers, to Troon for an unforgettable day.
The famous event is attended by thousands of well-wishers at the traditional starting point of Kelvin Way, before the taxis weave through Glasgow’s city centre and south side then on to Ayrshire, to be welcomed by even more enthusiastic supporters ahead of a memorable day out.
Jim Buchanan, Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund chair, said: “The excitement is starting to build with just one week to go before the latest Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund trip to Troon. We are all set for another day of fun and fancy dress and hope to provide the children taking part with an unforgettable trip to the seaside! A special thanks goes to all the drivers and volunteers who make the day happen, and all the generous sponsors who support us too.”
Supporters of this year’s trip include longstanding backers Glasgow Taxis Ltd and Celtic FC Foundation as well as returning sponsor Stewart Milne Homes.
Speaking on behalf of the Glasgow Taxis Ltd executive committee, Chairman Stephen Flynn said: “We’re delighted to once again support this year’s trip to Troon. The generosity of the drivers, and the support it receives from the public is incredible, and we hope today’s launch can help encourage even more people to come out and cheer the children on next Wednesday.”
