Celebrations are going online during lockdown.

Burns Night will be celebrated very differently across Scotland this year, as a result of lockdown.

The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway is set to mark the occasion virtually instead with two online events.

The first on Saturday 23rd January will include music and performances on what they are calling the 'Big Burns Night In.'

On Burns Night itself, Monday 25th January, a traditional Burns Supper will be streamed online from the birthplace cottage.

Learning Manager at the museum, Christopher Waddel says, "We're finding that the reach now is huge. We can get to 1,000 more people this way and it's going to be very productive for us in terms of spreading the message about Burns, what he's all about, his history and his poetry.

"Somewhere around 1.5 times the population of Scotland will sit down around the world and celebrate Burns and we can do that just as easily online as we can in a room with just a couple dozen people.

"You can have your haggis, neeps and tatties. I know that's not to everyone's taste so the good thing about this is you can do your own twist on it. You can serve the Burns Supper anyway that you want. If you want to go for haggis pakora, why not?

"You can sit down, raise a glass and join in the various toasts with us online.

"This is a time of great reflection. It's been a terrible year so lets use Burns to help look back on it but also to look forward as well."
