Pupils at St John’s Primary School on Whitletts Road in Ayr were evacuated this morning after a threat was called into the school.

Kids were taken out of class and led by teachers to the nearby Newton Primary while Police and fire services swept the school for a bomb.

Parents received a text message to tell them what was going on at around 11.50am.

Many of them went to the school to wait for their children.

The kids were allowed back to class at around 12.40pm after emergency services gave the all clear.

It is not the first time this has happened this week, a similar call was made to Doonfoot Primary in Ayr on Tuesday.

Kids were evacuated there too.

Police Scotland say the threat is not thought to be credible and evacuations are a "precautionary measure''.

Douglas Hutchison, South Ayrshire Council’s Director of Educational Services, said, “St John’s Primary was evacuated today after the school received an anonymous telephone threat.

“Although there was no suggestion that this was a credible threat, the school was evacuated as a precaution. All children were moved safely to Newton Primary where they were looked after by their own teachers and school staff. Once the emergency services gave the all clear and declared it safe to return, pupils and staff returned to St John’s.”
