Ayrshire Roads Alliance Prepared For Cold Winter

Published 9th Nov 2015

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance says it is organised for winter after its readiness plan was approved by Councillors.

They are responsible for keeping the main routes in South and East Ayrshire free from ice and snow during the cold months and utilise the areas 4 large salt domes and 23 gritters to do the job.

According to the Councils the domes are stocked to capacity and the gritters have been serviced and are ready for whatever winter throws at them.

Their 'Winter Service Plan' sets out the priorities for gritting and maintenance.

During the winter months daily decisions on what action is needed are made based on detailed weather forecasts and the monitoring data provided by the weather service provider.
