Ayrshire residents urged to make sure they get second Covid jag

Drop in clinics are being held across the region for anyone who received their first dose on or before March 22

Ayrshire residents who have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine are being encouraged to make sure they get their second.

With cases rising locally and increasing numbers of the highly-transmissible Delta variant in local communities, the NHS Ayrshire & Arran Public Health Team is reminding everyone that the best protection against the virus comes from having both doses of vaccine.

This comes after the First Minister said the easing of coronavirus restrictions is likely to be slowed down in Scotland until as many people as possible had received both jags.

Local drop-in clinics are now being arranged to help make it as easy as possible to get double-dosed.

Who is being urged to come forward?

Anyone who had their first dose of either Pfizer BioNTech or Oxford/Astrazeneca vaccine on or before 22 March and who hasn’t yet received their second dose – for whatever reason – should come to a vaccination clinic close to them as soon as possible.

Where can I get the vaccine?

Drop-in opportunities for this group are available on the following dates and locations in Ayrshire.

On Wednesday 16 June, Thursday 17 June, Friday 18 June and Saturday 19 June:

• Galleon Centre, Kilmarnock

• John Pollock Centre, Ayr

• Ardrossan Civic Centre

On Sunday 20 June:

• Cumnock Town Hall

• Greenwood Conference Centre, Dreghorn

All clinics will be running from 8.30am to 7.30pm on the dates listed. Simply come along and mention to a marshal or staff at the registration desk that you are attending for second dose and you will be welcomed by the vaccination team on a drop-in basis.

“Don’t leave the job half done”

Director of Public Health Lynne McNiven said:

“We know the vaccine is having a positive impact locally, by offering protection against the virus, cutting the number of people being hospitalised and tending to reduce the severity of illness in those who get COVID-19. The best protection you can get is by having both of the doses – don’t leave the job half done. If you have had one dose already, and it was given before 22 March please now come forward for your second vaccine as soon as possible.”
