Dumfries House - the stately home rescued by the King - has been decked out for Christmas.

Among the decorations is an eight ft Christmas tree decorated with large dark red berry wreaths and golden ornaments.

Two giant toy soldiers have also been placed in the entrance hall.

In the Blue Drawing Room, white flowers, green and silver foliage, white lights and oversized feathered wings. have adorned the fireplace.

The estate has made sure to use sustainable materials like glass and paper inspired by Charles's eco-conscious vision.

The decorations have been put in place by a team of butlers trained in hospitality by the Prince's Foundation.

Christmas Events

It is hoped they will help welcome visitors arriving for the various festive events taking place at the 18th Century home.

Members of the public can enjoy candlelit tours of the property, a deluxe festive banquet or a Christmas family lunch.

All proceeds from the events and other commercial operations at Dumfries House are invested in the Prince's Foundation's education and training programmes, many of which are delivered on the estate.

It was bought for £45m by a consortium led by the then Prince of Wales in 2007.

The Ayrshire home also featured in the ITV documentary A Royal Grand Design earlier this week.
