Ayrshire's Action on Hearing Loss has been given a cash boost from the three Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership boards.

The service was facing closure following cuts to North Ayrshire Council’s budget in February but will now remain open until September.

They support around 2,000 hearing aid users a year across Ayrshire and Arran.

A spokesman for North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership said: “The three Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership Boards have agreed to fund Ayrshire Action on Hearing for a six-month period from April 1 2016.

“All three Boards value the work carried out by AAOH and are keen ensure local communities continue to benefit from the services they offer.

“To that end, South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership are leading the development of a new Sensory Impairment Strategy for Ayrshire and Arran.

“As part of this work, options will be considered to ensure local communities can access sustainable services into the future.

“The additional funding that has been agreed will enable services to continue while the new strategy is being developed, with this due to be considered by all three Integration Joint Boards within the next six months.”
