On Saturday 26th of March 2016, police and partners will welcome the local community and motorcycle enthusiasts to attend an open day at North Harbour Motorcycles in Ayr.

The objective is to share best practice on safe biking and to create an opportunity for the community to learn more about how emergency services use bikes in the course of their duties, and how we respond to incidents involving motorcycles.

From 9am until 3pm, on Saturday 26th of March 2016, there will be representatives from a number of organisations at North Harbour Motorcycles, located on North Harbour Street in Ayr.

Those attending include; The Ayrshire Divisional Road Policing Unit, The National Motorcycle Unit of Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, The NHS Scottish Emergency Rider Volunteer Service, Motorcycle Funerals Ltd, Knockhill Racing Circuit, The Blue Knights (Scotland) and event hosts North Harbour Motorcycles and Honda UK.

With such a range of organisations attending, those who are passionate about motorcycles will be spoilt for choice at the event. Families are very welcome to attend and there will be plenty of opportunities for photographs throughout the course of the day.

Constable Jon Mochan from the Ayrshire Divisional Road Policing Unit, who has organised the event, said today: “After a long winter off the roads, many bikers head back to the roads during the month of March as the conditions begin to change. We hope that events like this will help share important safety messages which will make bikers stop and think about some of the risks they will encounter as they begin biking again for the first time in 2016.

“This is a great opportunity for us to deliver safety information to bikers, but it is also a great chance for those with an interest in bikes to see how the emergency services use these vehicles in the course of our duties.”

“It’s absolutely fantastic that so many organisations are coming together through their passion for motorcycles and their commitment to road safety. Our message is clear that we want people to enjoy the freedom of the road but to do so safely and responsibly.”
