Ayr man's e-cigarette mistaken for a bomb

Passengers were left standing at the side on the A77 in the rain after a man's e-cigarette was mistaken for a bomb.

Ayr musician Chris Barron was cleaning his electronic vaporiser when another passenger alerted the driver to a suspicious device on the bus.

The coach was then pulled over on the A77 near to Newton Mearns, evacuated and the driver contacted Police.

They arrived around 40 minutes later and Chris was asked to turn out his pockets by officers who discovered his e-cigarette, which he'd been cleaning.

Police confirmed they had responded to reports of a man "acting suspiciously" and confirmed it was a false alarm "in good faith".
