NHS Ayrshire & Arran is holding a public open day for local people to have a sneak peek at the new state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED) at University Hospital Ayr on Thursday 18 February 2016 from 2pm to 4pm.

Members of staff and volunteer

s will be on hand to provide tours of the new department and answer any questions. The new ED has

four fully functioning resuscitation

bays with the addition of an integrated minor injury unit and x

-ray facility.

Liz Moore, Director for Acute Services, comm ented: “Coming to an ED can be stressful, so the open day is a great opportunity for peopl

e to see an area of the hospital in a much more relaxed and enjoyable way. This means that if people do need to use our services they know they are being treated in a fit-fo

r-purpose department and they know what to expect.”

The new Emergency Department is

part of the Building for Better Care programme, which sees £27.5 million being invested in ‘front door’ services at both University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse.

The 'front door' is the term used to describe the point of entry for patients coming to hospital for anything other than a scheduled appointment.

The new facilities will make it possible for patients to get rapid assessment by senior clinical staff at the earliest point of their arrival in hospital.
