A group of teenagers have gone viral after stealing a tarmac roller and driving it through a residential area in Ayr.

The video which appears on social media has racked up more than a quarter of a million views on Friday morning.

Police are appealing for information after the incident happened on Whitletts Road on Wednesday night.

The machinery has since been returned after being found in the Russell Drive area and enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of youths who had stolen a tarmac roller and were driving it along Whitletts Road, Ayr.

"The incident happened around 10pm on Wednesday, 13 October.

"Officers traced the machinery in the Russell Drive area and it has been returned to the owners. Enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone who has any information relating to this incident should contact us on 101 quoting incident number 3552 of 13 October. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
