Arran Makes It Into Top 10 UK Tourist Islands

Arran has made it into the top 10 islands in the UK to be visited by tourists. It was ranked in 4th position beating the likes of Skye and the Isle of Man - Jersey claimed the top spot on the list which was based on TripAdvisor reviews.

The Visit Arran organisation said it was thrilled with the results, which they said was brilliant for the whole of Ayrshire and Arran - but they want to claim the top spot next time.

The islands were rated on their hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions.

These were the best-rated islands in the UK and the Channel Islands:

  1. Isle of Wight
  1. St Mary's, Isles of Scilly
  1. Isle of Arran, Scotland
  1. Isle of Skye, Scotland
  1. Mainland Orkney, Scotland
  1. Anglesey, Wales
  1. Lewis and Harris, Scotland
  1. Isle of Man
  1. Guernsey, Channel Islands

Jersey also made it into the top 10 of best European islands for travellers.

The Channel Island was rated sixth in the list compiled from tourists' reviews by TripAdvisor, beating the likes of Majorca, Capri, Tenerife and Corsica.

Top European island was Santorini in Greece, with the Portuguese island of Madeira second, Crete third and the Greek island of Zakynthos fourth.

In the world list, the only European islands to get into the top 10 were Santorini (fourth) and Madeira (sixth).

Top island in the world for tourists was the Caribbean island of Providenciales, which is part of Turks and Caicos. Second was Maui in Hawaii, with Roatan, the largest of Honduras's Bay Islands, third.
