Appeal after suspicious fire in Maybole

There is an appeal of information following a suspicious fire in Maybole.

Fire crews were called to Welltrees Street at around 1am on Monday morning after reports of smoke in a flat there.

No one was injured but Police say the fire was started intentionally and anyone with information should get in touch on 101.

Detective Constable Robert Docherty, from Ayr CID, is leading the investigation. He said today: "We know from our enquiries that this likely a wilful instance of fire-raising. Significant damage was caused as a result of this incident and this reckless act could have had even more tragic consequences. "It is possible that you may have noticed someone behaving suspiciously close to the address around the time of the incident. "Anyone with information can contact Ayr CID on 101, or alternatively can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
