The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog in very poor condition was discovered in Ayrshire.

Scotland's animal welfare charity was alerted on Monday evening (5 October) when the male terrier type dog was found next to an old playing field near Glebe Road in Galston.

The dog was taken to a vets where he collapsed and sadly the vet advised the kindest decision was to put him to sleep as he was suffering to such an extent.

Inspector Janet Proudlock said, "The dog, a neutered male, was estimated to be around seven to eight years old.

"He was a white and grey rough coated terrier type, possibly a cross between a Jack Russell and a Border collie.

"The vet advised that he weighed between six and seven kilograms when he should have been eleven kilograms.

"He was extremely matted and was in a very bad way when he was found.

"This was a very tragic end to this dog's life and we are appealing to anyone with information about who might have owned him to contact us."

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
