An Ayr woman is appealing for information after her 1 year-old bunny, Ronnie, was found with a broken leg and his fur ripped out on Sunday morning.

Charlotte Forsyth posted about the incident on Facebook after it was confirmed the rabbit would have to be put to sleep - vets say his injuries were the result of someone grabbing the him out of his hutch and were not caused by another animal.

The post has been shared more than 1,000 times.

It happened in the Niven Court area of New Farm some time between 11pm on Saturday and 9am the next day - it is thought a group of young girls were in the area at the time throwing rocks at windows.

Scottish SPCA Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said: “We have not received any calls in relation to this incident, however it was clearly a very cruel act which has sadly resulted in the death of an innocent animal.

“We would urge anyone with information to contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
