Anticipation grows ahead of Scottish Grand National

Scotland's richest day’s racing takes place at Ayr Racecourse today when the 2016 Scottish Grand National is run with over £470,000 in prize-money over the eight races.

All 17,000 tickets for the day were sold out by Wednesday lunchtime and the main event, the Scottish National is due of at 4.10 pm with 30 runners going to post for the £210,000 race.

An Irish horse hasn’t been successful in the race since 1864 buy this year leading trainer Willie Mullins runs Measureofmydreams, Gordon Elliott saddles Cause Of Causes and Mouse Morris bid to land a hat trick of Grand Nationals following recent wins in the Irish and English version when he runs Folsom Blue.

The main supporting contest is the £101,000 QTS Scottish Champion Hurdle and Mullins is represented by two here in Ivan Grozny and Clondaw Warrior.

The going is good to soft, soft in places and a dry day with sunny spells is forecast.

Gates open at 11.00 am with the first race at 1.50 pm.
