Anger over proposals to axe school crossing patrols in South Ayrshire

There is anger from parents over proposals which could see crossing patrols axed from every school in South Ayrshire.

It's part of the local authority's proposals to balance the budget next year and make savings of around £17m.

Crossing patrols or guards help children across the road safely on their way to class, especially those old enough not to walk with their parents. But removing them all would save South Ayrshire Council more than £128,000 next year.

The local authority claims it's having to "face up to tough choices that are painful but necessary" as a result of cuts made by Westminster.
