Officers in the Scottish SPCA are appealing for information after a kitten was found abandoned on an old railway line in East Ayrshire this month.

On September 16, a member of the public phoned the animal welfare charity after seeing a black bin bag moving on an unused railway line in Newmiln, East Ayrshire.

Upon investigating, officers found a 10-week-old male kitten inside the bin bag in a poor condition.

Inspector Katy McIntyre from the SSPCA said his condition was near fatal when discovered.

She said: “This male kitten was found abandoned in a black bin bag, and is approximately 10-weeks old.

“He is very thin and has severe anaemia. He also had a high flea infestation and was covered in maggot eggs when he was found.”

Unfortunately, investigators have no information on who is responsible for the abuse suffered by the kitten.

He had no collar and hadn’t been microchipped when he was found. Therefore the Scottish SPCA are looking for any information which could lead to the person responsible.

Inspector McIntyre added: ““We understand that vet bills can cause worry, but this is not the way to give up an animal.

“If anyone recognises this kitten or has any information about this incident, we would ask that they contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
