Man with life threatening injuries after A78 crash

The collision happened in the early hours of Friday morning

A man's fighting for life in hospital after a crash on the A78 in Irvine in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police were called to reports of a crash which happened around half 1 when a BMW lost control near the Eglinton roundabout

Emergency services attended and the female passenger was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment to what are described as minor injuries.

The male driver suffered life threatening injuries and is at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the crash and the road is currently closed southbound at the Eglinton Interchange.

Sergeant Craig Beaver said: “Enquiries are ongoing in to the cause of the crash and we are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch. I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time to review dashcam footage and get in touch.

“We anticipate the road will be closed for some time and we would ask motorists to avoid the area if possible.”
