An elderly man was robbed in his Kilmarnock home on Tuesday morning around 9:30am.

He was approached by two men who claimed to be workmen and was persuaded to let them into his home.

The 93 year old who stays on New Street later discovered a three figure sum of cash was missing.

The suspects have been described as white males who spoke with an English accent.

The first was around 5ft 11in of slim build and had brown hair. The other was around 5ft 8in of stocky build with brown hair.

Both were dressed in dark clothing including black baseball caps.

Constable Craig Marshall from Kilmarnock Police Station said: "This has been a traumatic experience for an extremely vulnerable person in our community.

"Although he wasn't hurt he has been left very shaken up and afraid.

"Door step crime happens everywhere and anyone can fall victim as these criminals are extremely clever and are very good at lying.

"I would urge everyone to be aware of what's going on in their community and if they see anything suspicious give us a call on 101 and let us deal with these people.

"Also, I would appeal to anyone who was in or around New Street or infact anyone who has any information of this particular incident to get in touch."
