Work is getting underway to tackle fuel poverty in South Ayrshire.

£1.4million is being invested to improve energy efficiency by replacing external cladding in buildings in Wallacetoun, Ayr; Woodpark in Prestwick; and at Troon Harbour.

The six month programme of work is being funded by South Ayrshire Council and the Home Energy Efficiency Programmes for Scotland.

Tenants and residents will also benefit from greater insulation at no personal cost, with savings of £200 per year.

Councillor Philip Saxton, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Housing and Customer Services said, “As work gets underway in the three towns, people will soon be enjoying the benefits of warm, dry, energy efficient homes that will be cheaper to run in the long-term.

“The new cladding will help to reduce fuel poverty, make the properties more attractive places to live in the long term, while enhancing the local area.

"I look forward to seeing the work being completed this summer, with this programme of works helping to bring wide-ranging benefits that will breathe new life into hundreds of homes across the local communities.”

A list of which properties will benefit is below:

Ayr: The project, that will benefit 123 properties, is part of a three-phase programme that will eventually benefit 191 properties in Wallacetoun. The final stage of work, for a further 68 properties, is expected to be completed in 2017-18. The work will benefit flats in Kings Court, Limonds Wynd, Philip Square, and Russell Drive.

Prestwick: The project will benefit 60 properties in the Woodpark area. The work will benefit properties in the Woodpark flats including Spruce House, Rowan House, Birch House, Larch House, Pine House, and Elder House.

Troon: The project will benefit 120 properties in Troon Harbour. The work will benefit properties in Craig Road, Titchfield Road, Harbour Road, Kennedy Road, and Wood Road.
