It's been two years since Peter Kay was last seen on TV but he's due to make a return to the spotlight later this month.

In 2017 the comedian cancelled all of his 2018 and 2019 tour dates due for "unforeseen circumstances" and was hardly seen by fans subsequently. Last year, he made a rare public appearance during the Easter holidays and now - a year on - he's set to star on Children in Need and Comic Relief's TV special.

Lenny Henry confirmed the exciting news during an appearance on The One Show, explaining "Children in Need and Comic Relief are merging for the very first to time to raise money and raise spirits.

"We've got special guests, some famous faces. I can tell you today that Peter Kay is joining us."

He went on to say that the three-hour long show that will air on BBC One on the 23rd April at 7pm will also include, "Catherine Tate and Gary Barlow, with lots of musical guests." Lenny added, "It's going to be a fantastic night.

"We want to cheer people up in this terrible crisis. Even if you can't donate, just watch because it'll cheer you up."

The wonderful news comes weeks after Peter was forced to cancel and postpone his Dance For Life event due to coronavirus.

At the time he wrote a statement explaining, "Obviously this is disappointing news but well and truly justified given the circumstances.

"We'll get through this, together and then we'll all have a great big dance for life. Stay safe and look after yourselves and the people around you."
