It follows years of campaigning

Work on the noisy concrete section of the M27 is getting underway.

It's going to cost ÂŁ83m to resurface the stretch between junctions 5 for Eastleigh and 7 for Hedge End.

It comes after years of campaigning by people living in places such as Hedge End, West End, Fair Oak and Eastleigh.

National Highways say it's going to be replaced with a low noise asphalt.

During the project, the motorway will be reduced to three lanes in each direction, with a 50mph speed limit and narrow lanes in place.

Tonight, the westbound carriageway will be closed to install traffic management with the eastbound side following suit on Thursday.

We're told it's due to be complete by Spring 2026.
