The next phase of work to make part of the M27 near Southampton quieter will get underway in January.

The concrete section between junctions 5 and 7 for Eastleigh and Hedge End is being repaired and resurfaced.

For years, people living near the stretch have complained the road is too loud.

Paul Holmes MP said: “I’ve made delivering the M27 resurfacing a top priority since being elected and it is brilliant to see this important taking shape.

“This scheme represents a £50m investment in our local area that will provide a much quieter road surface for residents and ensure that the road surface will be fit for purpose for decades to come.

“The next phase of the project will see the concrete section of the motorway repaired before the main overlay scheme goes ahead.”

Local campaigner, Jerry Hall added: “We’ve been working for many years to secure the resurfacing and this is fantastic news.

"It’s taken a lot of hard work but it has paid off and will make a huge difference to West End and Hedge End.”
