A 19-year-old man is due in court

A man has been charged in connection with a reported aggravated burglary in Bournemouth.

It is reported that at around 11.55pm on Thursday 4 May 2023 a group of five men forced entry to an address in Moore Avenue.

A female occupant of the property was allegedly assaulted with a hammer. She did not sustain any serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment as a precaution.

Following initial enquiries, a 19-year-old man from London was arrested. He has now been charged with aggravated burglary and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday 8 May 2023.

Detective Inspector Shaun Inkpen, of Bournemouth CID, said: “Following extensive enquiries, I can now confirm that we have charged a man in connection with this incident.

“Our investigation remains ongoing, and I am continuing to appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything in the area to please get in touch.

“I would ask residents in Moore Avenue and the surrounding areas to please check their home CCTV systems or doorbell cameras for footage that may assist our investigation.

“If you have any information that may help our enquiries, please contact Dorset Police.

“We understand this incident will have caused concern to members of the local community. Therefore, officers from the neighbourhood policing team will be in the area over the coming days, and can be approached if they have any information or concerns.”
