For the second time this winter thousands of homes across Southampton and Winchester are without water.

Southern Water said over 10,000 customers had supply issues because of a fault at its site in Otterbourne near Winchester.

The company said engineers worked through the night on the issue, but it would take 48 hours to return supplies.

A reservoir has been drained because the water became contaminated.

Bottled water stations have opened at the Ageas Bowl in West End, Places Leisure in Eastleigh and Cantell School in Southampton.

Southern Water said it was delivering bottled water to its most vulnerable customers.

Around 20,000 properties in Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester were left without water or had low pressure before Christmas.
