Problems with waste collections in Southampton

Council bosses in Southampton have apologised to households over problems with bin collections.
A large amount of garden waste and major roadworks around tipping locations are being blamed.
The city council says it's put plans in place to tackle the delays and is monitoring the situation closely on a daily basis.
In a Facebook post, Southampton City Council said: "We’re aware of delays and disruption surrounding waste collections recently. We apologise for any inconvenience to residents.
"The delays are due to a variety of factors. While the weather has been ideal for gardening, we’ve seen heavier than expected garden waste loads. We’re also being held up by major roadworks and traffic delays around our tipping locations. These works are creating up to 90 minutes delay on each round.
"Our crews are working hard to clear the backlogs. We have implemented a support plan, including introducing additional resource to help clear outstanding waste. We’re also providing additional resource to affected teams to mitigate the traffic delays. With these plans in place, we anticipate that all waste collections will return to normal and waste will be collected on the scheduled collection date for the duration of the roadworks.
