Man arrested after car driven on wrong side of motorway

Police were called to the M3 at Winchester in the early hours of Sunday

A 50-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested after a car was seen driving on the wrong side of the M3 at Winchester.

Police were called to reports of a blue Subaru Impreza driving southbound on the northbound carriageway, between junctions 9 and 11, shortly after 1.30am on Sunday.

The vehicle was also reported to have been driving fast, with both full beam and hazard lights switched on.

Police said officers attended and found a vehicle matching the description parked on the south side of junction 9.

The suspect was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving and drink driving.

Police are appealing for dash cam footage of the vehicle and want to speak to anyone who may have taken note of its registration plate.
