Aerial photos have revealed the full extent of the devastation caused by a landslip on the Isle of Wight.

The slip happened at Bonchurch on Sunday night (December 9th), forcing 20 homes on Leeson Road to be evacuated.

It's led to the route - the main one between Ventnor and Shanklin - being blocked off to cars and buses.

Smugglers Haven Tea Gardens was one of a number of properties left devastated by Sunday night's slip.

The owner, Samatha Buckley, has described what happened as a 'ticking time bomb'.

"It's got to be, I reckon at least a couple of miles wide.

"It looks like a warzone, even now we struggle to believed that happened in one evening and in just 20 minutes."

An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said:

"We understand the levels of impact and disruption that these road closures are having on people’s lives and movements, and are seeking to find solutions in a timely and safe manner.

"We are in constant dialogue with service providers to understand timescales in order to keep disruption to a minimum and seek to remove any road restrictions as soon as possible and when safe to do so."
