Crews tackle large heath fire in Poole

Firefighters are continuing to monitor a huge fire on Canford Heath in Poole.
We're told it is now surrounded and under control.
Flames broke out at around 6pm yesterday evening (Saturday 23 April 2022), spreading quickly in the strong winds.
The billowing smoke could be seen from several miles away.
Ashdown Leisure Centre was opened as an evacuation site for those who had to flee their homes.
Crews have described the fire as the largest on Canford Heath for several years.
The fire control room says it received 168 calls about the blaze, alongside dealing with other service-wide incidents.
An investigation is now underway to work out the cause.
