Scunthorpe man left with severe brain injuries after bar attack to cycle 290 miles
22-year-old Daniel Brown is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for the brain injjury charity Headway which helped him get his life back.
A Scunthorpe man who almost died after a vicious attack in a nightclub is setting off on a 290-mile cycle challenge today to help raise money for the charity which helped him get his life back.
Daniel Brown was left with life-threatening brain injuries and had to have part of his skull removed after being punched down the stairs of a town centre bar three years ago.
He spent six months in hospital and still suffers with the injuries he sustained and told Viking:
"I suffered damage to one of the lobes in my brain which resulted in permanent damage and has left me unable to smell. I also struggle with short term memory and spacial awareness.
"After the attack, I was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary and my parents were called and told that in the first 48 hours it was touch and go and to bring the family just incase.
"I have had to have lots of surgery for my injuries because originally they had to take the bone flap out so that the brain had room because it was swelling and if it swelled too much it would push the brain stem to the back of the head. Then in February this year, they had to take that bone flap back out and put a ceramic plate in so that the skull was more symetrical."
Daniel's hoping to raise thousands of pounds for brain injury charity, Headway, when he bikes from London to Paris over the next four days.
